Online Verification
As everyone is now aware, the
efficiencies in supply chain transactions and the accuracy
of labels used in manufacturing production processes is extremely
important. The nature of printers that are used to produce
such labels is that they are typically capable of producing
variable information.
It is important that printers
can print variable information and unfortunately periodically
they have problems that can result in printing labels that
are unreadable or that contain the wrong information. Since
many of these printers are used off-line, in other words they
are not scanning the label immediately after it's been printed,
all of of these labels can go into distribution or into manufacturing.
This creates very serious problems of large amounts of inventory
or production being placed in jeopardy. For that reason, companies
in this position should consider online verification of barcode
labels they produce.
There are two elements to consider
when thinking about this subject. One is the actual ANSI barcode
print quality. It is especially wise to monitor this in the
event that the barcodes are going outside of your system,
so that you can feel comfortable that you are in conformance
with the industry standards that you are obliged to follow.
The second element is the data content. Since the data can
inadvertently change it is import to ensure that the message
in the barcode is the message that you are trying to convey.
It would be ideal to do both!
